Established in 2008, WPC is an open standards development group that works with electronic and technology companies across the world. Our mission is to set global standards for safety, efficiency and interoperability of wireless power applications. We are the world’s leading authority on wireless power transfer and a hallmark of trust, relied upon by millions of people in countless countries.
One group. One goal.
WPC is comprised of over 300 member companies from across the world. We’re made up of large household brands such as Apple, Sony, Samsung, Microsoft, Huawei and Google, as well as many smaller and start-up technology companies, all who recognize the need and benefits of standards. By collaborating together as one group, we’re able to define and redefine global standards in wireless power. Our Qi interface technology, certified for over 9000 different wireless charging products, is a great example of what collaboration and cooperation can do.
Future focused
It’s not just today’s mobile products that we’re concerned with. Wireless charging is evolving beyond consumer handheld devices into new applications such as ebikes and escooters, and intelligent cordless kitchens. Our new Ki standard is building a blueprint for the cordless kitchen and we’re developing global standards for the booming world market in light electric vehicles too. Safety, efficiency and interoperability are three big words for the future.

Tried and tested
We use a network of independent authorized labs around the globe to implement our rigorous testing. Only member companies can have their products tested and certified for one of our standards. It sets them apart from their competitors and is one of many great reasons to join us.
Qi standard
For mobile electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and smartwatches.

Why we take wireless charging seriously
Standards are essential as all electronic products should be safe, efficient and interoperable. Our rigorous certification testing assures consumers and businesses that the equipment they use can be relied on, wherever it’s being used, whatever it’s being used with.
Heat. Safe.
All chargers generate heat but Qi Certified chargers will automatically shut charging down if excessive heat is detected. Similarly, Ki enabled appliances shut off automatically to prevent overheating.
Foreign objects. Safe.
With Foreign Object Detection, Qi Certified chargers will stop charging if a coin or other metal object gets in the way. Non-Qi Certified chargers have been shown to generate heat capable of inducing third degree burns.
Overcharging. Safe.
Charging overnight is worry-free with Qi. Qi chargers know when a device or appliance is fully powered and will stop charging.
Interoperable. Always.
A Qi Certified device paired with a Qi Certified charger will always work, regardless of manufacturer, country of origin or any other factor. Likewise, in a Ki Cordless Kitchen, appliances will be fully compatible with hobs and cooktops, irrespective of brand.
