iHome Joins the WPC and Announces New Alarm Clock Delivering Hassle Free Wireless Charging for Qi Compatible Android Devices

Last week iHome announced that it is releasing two new alarm clocks that will include the latest features and ability to keep both Apple and Android devices fully charged.

iHome will soon release the iBN350, the first alarm clock featuring an integrated Qi conductive charging platform for wireless charging of compatible devices like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and other popular Android smartphones. Users can also charge non-compatible devices by using Qi charging enabled cases and accessories (sold separately), or through the device's USB port. Additionally, the iBN350 supports NFC quick pairing for Bluetooth, another useful bonus for Android users.

We sat down for a Q&A with Director of Business and Product Development at SDI Technologies, iHome Division, Gary Schultz, to learn more about this new product.

WPC: Tell us about your new Qi registered product?
Gary: iHome just announced the new model iBN350 to our product line. iHome is the largest bedside audio brand and is currently in 35 million bedrooms and 3 million hotel rooms globally. The iBN350 is the first bedside clock radio to offer wireless charging.

WPC: Why did iHome choose to join the WPC?
Gary: We decided to go with the number one wireless charging standard on the market. We believe that having the certification would lend more credibility for the retailer and the consumer. The fact that it is a fully certified product allows for a safe, efficient and strong user experience. WPC is a true global standard that is backward compatible, and this was important in choosing a group with whom to work.

WPC: How does wireless charging fit into your brand’s goals and aspirations (i.e. smart home, etc)?
Gary: Being the largest provider and brand for docking solutions for mobile devices like smartphones, we felt having the capability for the many cell phones with embedded Qi made sense to offer consumers the ease and convenience of wireless charging.

WPC: Why do you think iHome customers will love wireless charging?
Gary: Our customers will enjoy the ease and convenience of just resting their phone atop the iBN350 without the need for cords or wires.
