The Wireless Power Consortium will gradually add new types of transmitters to the Qi specification. The first one is just released, and three more are in the pipeline. These new transmitter types are fully compatible with all current and future Qi-capable phones.

The new transmitter type is based on moving coil technology and provides total freedom of positioning. The specification of this new transmitter is avalable as "Addendum 1" to version 1.0.2 of the Qi specification.
