The Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo has installed Qi wireless charging stations at 60 public locations, including airport lounges, salons, cinemas, and cafes. By the end of December, Qi will be available at more than 120 venues throughout Japan, including top department stores, hotels, convenience stores, and fast food restaurant chains.

Wireless charging becomes more useful and convenient as it gets integrated into everyday places where people live, work, and travel.

Visteon Technologies joined the Wireless Power Consortium today.

They are the 100th member of the WPC.

Each Qi wireless charging product is tested by an independent test lab before it can be launched. The test lab issues a 'compliance certificate' when the product is found to be compatible with the Qi specification.

The certificate is issued before a product is announced. That means you can see the pipeline of Qi product announcements by looking at the number of issued certificates.

'Rx' means 'receiver'. These are phones, battery packs and other products that receive power.

'Tx' means 'wireless charging station'.

The Wireless Power Consortium was founded in December 2008. In the following year, membership increased slowly to about 20 companies. From October 2009 onwards membership started grow faster. Steady, contineous growth:
