10000 public Qi chargers

NTT-Docomo announced that an additional 10,000 new public Qi chargers will be installed in Japan by March 2013.

Hiroyuki Yoshida, NTT Docomo’s Vice President of Product Planning made the announcement at a key note speech for the conference "FPD International 2012 / Mobile Technology 2012" in Yokohama on October 31, 2012.

The Qi chargers are located in public areas such as Tully's Coffee shops and airport lounges.

NTT Docomo had already sold more than 1.8 million Qi-phones that are capable of using these public chargers without without plugging in a cable or adaptor.

By the end of September 2012, approximately 500 locations in Japan offered 3000 Qi charging spots. That number is now growing dramatically.

According to a Panasonic spokesperson, cooperating with NTT DoCoMo, there is a growing demand for wireless power charging facilities in coffee shops, restaurants, and waiting areas.
